Rule Three.

Rule 3 - If a singular noun ends in f or fe make the plural by changing f or fe to ves

Examples :

Singular Plural Singular Plural
leaf leaves loaf loaves
wolf wolves thief thieves
knife knives life lives
wife wives shelf shelves


Common exceptions:

chef chefs reef reefs
chief chiefs belief beliefs
safe safes brief briefs


N.B :

You can make the plurals of these words by adding s or by changing the f to ves
