Pronouns

A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun.

Instead of: Jack took Jack's book when Jack went to Jack's study,

We write: Jack took his book when he went to his study.

The pronouns his and he are used to replace the noun Jack.

There are several groups of personal pronouns.

When we are speaking about ourselves.

  • I went to the show early.
  • Come with me.
  • We are playing tennis.
  • Jack saw us.

When we are speaking to others

  • You should clean the car.
  • Go by yourself

Pronouns for asking questions

  • Who is there?
  • What is the problem?
  • Whose book is that?
